Understanding LinkedIn SEO

LinkedIn SEO involves strategically crafting and utilizing your profile to enhance its search ranking, subsequently improving its visibility. The higher your profile ranks for specific terms, the more likely it is to attract views. While LinkedIn's ranking algorithm is complex and resides within the platform's IT infrastructure, there are practical ways to leverage it to your advantage.

Step 1: Keywords

Identify 7-10 words or phrases that your ideal clients might use when searching for your services and create your own LinkedIn keywords list. Incorporate these keywords throughout your profile, including your headline, role descriptions, and skills and endorsements. Be sure to prioritize skills already in LinkedIn's database.

Step 2: Headlines

Customize your headline, which appears just below your profile image and name, by including your role title, industry, and specialty. Maximize the available 120 characters for an informative snapshot of yourself, avoiding the use of emojis on any headline for LinkedIn.

Step 3: Job Title Optimization

Review Google search results for your current role and adjust your title to match or align with the most relevant variations.

Step 4: Linkedin Profile Completeness

Achieve a 100% complete profile by filling out every section, using bullet points for readability. This is key to optimizing your LinkedIn profile. Follow their automated guidance to enhance incomplete sections. Focus on building quality connections aligned with your organization, industry, specialty, and target client.

Step 5: Vanity URL

Personalize your LinkedIn URL to make it more user-friendly and shareable. Update it from the default, which often includes numbers, to a custom URL that reflects your professional identity.
